Dramatis Personae:

Jocelyn "Joss" Desiderii - third son to Lord Desiderii, wealthy aristocratic landowner in the lunar colonies. Joss was exiled to Luna after some unspecified scandals back on Earth and spends his days gambling, hunting, and seeking whatever sport he can while awaiting the lift of his 'sentence.' As a native grounder, someone born on the Earth's surface, he has an unfortunate tendency to view spacers or colonists as second class citizens. As his parents were killed in a ship accident when he was young (which has led to a particular fear of space travel), Joss is actually Lord Desiderii's nephew and was adopted as a son.

Diver - a decorated veteran and war hero from the Martian Uprisings. Born to a poor spacer family that couldn't afford to keep him out of the draft, he survived Basic and the surgical modifications performed on selected soldiers and went on to participate in decisive battles against colony raiders and later Martian Separatists. His body is now considered military property and he is prohibited from speaking out against his makers. He lost his partner, Fox, in a battle against the Separatists and his body was never recovered. As space marines are essentially forced to cut all ties with their homes and family upon entering training, their units become their entire universe. It's rumored that his current PR tour is due to him having been declared unfit for active duty.
